#Introduction 👋 I’m Henry. Husband, new dad, church volunteer, Chicago suburbanite, and casual gamer. My #Faith, #Family, and #Community matter deeply to me. I’m Christian, serve in #Discipleship and #ChurchAVL production. Also enjoy syste
We must guard against defining "best" for our children by a comfortable consumerist narrative, not the Bible. Safety in North America is an illusion. Truly best is knowing God and walking in obedience to all he asks, wherever that may lead.
"It is our aim that each man, woman, and child shall be both a learner from someone more advanced, and a teacher of someone less advanced." — John Nevius, The Planting and Development of Missionary Churches, 1899 #Discipleship #NeviusMethod
What “discipleship” means
WikipediaIn Christianity, a disciple is a dedicated follower of Jesus. This term is found in the New Testament only in the Gospels and Acts. Originating in the ancient Near East, the concept of a disciple is an adherent of a teacher. Discipleship is not the same as being a student in the modern sense; a disciple in the ancient biblical world actively imitated both the life and teaching of the master. It was a deliberate apprenticeship which made the fully formed disciple a living copy of the master.
