The cult of Dionysus consisted of a wide range of Greek and later Roman religious practices associated with Dionysus, ecstasy, theatre, vegetation, and certain form of salvation after death. Ecstatic rituals performed by people involved in the cult included the orgeia, a forest rite involving ecstatic dance during the night.
