What shipped

  • Local Content Bundles — Automated generator for tailored business content.
  • Accessibility Improvements — Dark mode feature for the Accessibility panel.
  • Navigation Overhaul — Streamlined navbar for better performance.
  • Radio Headline Fix — Plural-tolerant classifier for improved accuracy.
  • Dynamic Portals Sitemap — Resolved issues with sitemap generation.

Today, I set out to enhance the local content experience on my platform and improve accessibility features. Through a long, grueling 22-hour day, I shipped several key features and addressed critical bugs that were hindering progress. I focused on creating dynamic content bundles for business pages, improving the accessibility panel, and refining navigation elements. By the end of the day, I had successfully implemented a per-business content bundle generator and made significant strides in enhancing accessibility.

The most notable feature I shipped was the local content bundle generator. This generator allows for the automatic creation of tailored content bundles, which include humanized articles, service FAQs, and landmark data for each business. This development was crucial as I discovered several pages that were thin and not indexed, which could impact visibility and user engagement. After hours of back-and-forth with my AI assistant, I managed to get the generator to work seamlessly, ensuring that each business page now showcases relevant and rich content.

While I was excited about the progress, I encountered a frustrating bug with the radio feature where the headline classifier was not tolerant of plural forms. This issue took longer than expected to diagnose, as it required diving deep into the AI models I was using. After some debugging, I implemented a fix that now allows the classifier to handle plural headlines effectively. It was a reminder of how nuanced AI can be, and how even small oversights can lead to significant setbacks.

In addition to the local bundles, I made strides in improving accessibility on the platform. I revamped the Accessibility panel by implementing a dark mode feature. This involved switching the background and foreground colors to theme tokens that auto-switch based on user preferences. Accessibility is a critical aspect of my platform, and ensuring that users have the best experience is something I take seriously. I hope these enhancements will make a difference for users who rely on dark mode, thus broadening my audience.

The navigation also underwent a significant overhaul. I replaced the placeholder link with the $SPACE coin badge on the hashtag.space link, which not only improves the user experience but also ties into the larger vision for my platform. I need to keep users engaged and informed about the $SPACE coin, as it’s integral to the ecosystem I’m building.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of today’s work was optimizing the homepage navigation. I had to cap the navigation directory dropdown from 17,000 to 40 items while ensuring that below-the-fold promotions were deferred. This was no small feat, as the navbar was originally rendering every activated city and industry combination, leading to a massive data load. After multiple iterations, I managed to streamline the process and significantly improve performance, which is essential as I scale up the platform.

Looking back, I realize that the long hours and the challenges I faced today are part of the journey toward building a one-man-show company with a billion-dollar valuation. Each feature I ship and every bug I fix brings me closer to that goal. I’m doing this solo with the help of Claude Code in VS Code rather than relying on costly tools, which not only saves money but also gives me a hands-on understanding of every element of my platform. As I continue to build in public, I hope to inspire other solo developers to embrace the grind and find creative solutions to complex problems. Today was a testament to that spirit, and I’m proud of what I accomplished despite the setbacks.
